The clove plant has a versatile effect for both humans and animals. For example, it naturally has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect. But it also optimizes the ECS system. This system is the body's signal generator. So we are not talking about the clove as you know it from the supermarket, but about the plant and the flowers. Curious about how it works? We will tell you all about it in this blog!

Active substances in cloves
The clove is a dried, unopened flower bud of the clove tree (Syzygium aromaticum) and gets its name from its appearance. The clove tree grows in a tropical climate and is an evergreen tree that only grows cloves after the 6th year. Cloves have a strong smell and taste and are therefore often used in dishes, but also as an insect repellent or in odors. But not the cloves as you know it, but the plant and flower have a medicinal effect. It is rich in essential oils (eg the phenol Eugenol), tannins, flavonoids, sterols and crystalline substances and fatty oils. In addition, cloves are rich in phytocannabinoids. These substances ensure that the endocannabinoid system (ECS system) of the horse can come into balance again. This system is the body's signal generator and checks at the cellular level for abnormalities. When there is an abnormality, it sends a signal to the brain via a cannabinoid. In this way the brain knows where to send the correct additives. This makes the horse better able to solve problems in the body itself. --> Read more about the enodocannabinoid system Below we indicate what the medicinal effect of cloves is.High natural anti-inflammatory horses
The oil components in cloves naturally have a high anti-inflammatory effect. For that reason, it is used humanely for a toothache, for example. Due to its anti-inflammatory effect, cloves can be used in horses for:- Arthrosis
- Tendon injuries
- Allergies
- Respiratory infections
- Intestinal infections
Pain-relieving effect on horse
An important function of cannabinoids in cloves is the analgesic effect. But in addition, the oil components in cloves also have an analgesic effect. Clove can therefore be seen as an alternative for devil's claw and boswelia in horses, especially devil's claw regularly causes stomach complaints with long-term use or in sensitive horses. Cloves can be used in horses because of the analgesic properties for:- Osteoarthritis / joint complaints
- Laminitis / Hoof ulcers
- EORTH
- Other pain complaints
Build-up of the stomach lining (mucosa)
Cloves promote the build-up of the stomach lining. And thus protects against the influences of stress that can cause stomach ulcers. In addition, the light has an anesthetic on the gastric mucosa, so that (small) stomach ulcers are less sensitive and horses continue to eat better. However, nutrition is the basis for stomach ulcers. For questions and advice you can always contact us.A powerful antioxidant effect
Clove stimulates the detoxification of the liver, so that the body is rid of toxins, in human use it is even indicated that it protects against carcinogens. It has an antioxidant effect and thus helps protect the body cells against free radicals. This has not been studied in horses, but the same effect is expected. Against fungi, bacteria, parasites and viruses The oil components in cloves have a positive effect against fungi, bacteria, parasites and viruses. In horses it is therefore a very suitable herb to use for:- A reduced resistance
- Worm infections
- Sweet itch
- Fungal infections
- Bacterial infections
