There is a difference between omega 3 fatty acids found in vegetable oil (ALA) and animal oil (EPA and DHA). ALA fatty acids must first be converted by a horse to EPA and DHA in order to be able to use it in the body. This process is very inefficient, resulting in a conversion of only 5-10%. Animal omega 3 fatty acids can be used directly by the horse, so that the omega 3 fatty acids that you provide through salmon oil are fully utilized.
