Rearing young horses: growing up strongly with silicon

A young horse in rearing needs a lot of free movement and proper nutrition. Only then can he grow into a powerful (sports) horse with a strong frame. A horse that is ready in its body to work slowly but surely and then keep it healthy for many years. Sufficient silicon in the daily ration of young horses supports the production of strong bones, tendons, ligaments and joints.

Studies show that silicon is an essential element in the production of collagen and bones. It probably works in the so-called bone matrix, where it supports the blunting cells. Research shows that the use of silicon dietary supplements in growing animals leads to improved bone quality. The effect can be measured after a few months.

Bone production

Absorbable silicon in the diet of horses (and humans) stimulates the bone-making cells called osteoblasts. In addition, the bone-depleting cells (called osteoclasts) are inhibited. Silicon provides better bone density, more collagen production and reduces the breakdown of bones and collagen.

Silicon builds the musculoskeletal system

The main building block for cartilage, synovial fluid, tendons and ligaments is glucosamine, which is made by the body itself. Studies show that hydrolysed silicon supplements stimulate the body’s own production of glucosamine. It works as follows: first silicon creates a greater production of synovial fluid, the lubricant that is around the joints.

Silicon then has a positive effect on the tendons and promotes the production of collagen in the connective tissue. Connective tissue is very important, it keeps the whole horse “together”, as it were. “Then silicon stimulates the cartilage and the joint capsules; the pads and rotating parts of the skeleton.

Eventually (after a few months) the silicon enters the bones, where bone production is supported by the osteoblasts. To get the whole effect, from the outside in, you have to give silicon for a longer time. But in the end, your young horse’s entire musculoskeletal system becomes stronger.

Supplement shortages with absorbable silicon

In humans it has also been shown that bone density is greater when we consume more than enough silicon through our daily diet. It was found that there is often too little silicon in the regular diet of humans and animals. Horse hay is also often low in minerals, especially if it comes from sandy soils. You don’t have to overdose silicon, but you should supplement it to the level that should actually be in the diet. It is important that a silicon supplement is easily absorbed. Hydrolysed (liquid) silicon is directly absorbed and used in the body.

Conclusion: Support growing horses with liquid silicon

Growing young horses can use liquid silicon to stimulate the production of collagen and bone. This gives the growing animals a stronger frame, which ultimately leads to a more resilient and powerful horse that is less susceptible to injuries. All parts of the musculoskeletal system benefit from silicon: from the tendons and bands to the connective tissue, cartilage, synovial fluid and even the bones.
